Conditions We Treat

  • Excess wax / blocked ear canals
  • Children with wax or dislodged grommets
  • People who a wax problem with a history of ear surgery
  • Hearing aid or hearing protection plug wearers
  • People with blocked ears from an ear infection (otitis externa)
  • People who are going for a hearing test

Symptoms

Indications of an ear wax build-up include:

  • Ear ache
  • A sensation of fullness in the ear
  • Pain
  • Partial hearing loss that may get worse
  • Dizziness
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ear)
  • Ears feel blocked

Causes

  • A narrow ear canal
  • Ears may produce excess wax faster than the ear can naturally clear
  • The use of foreign objects such as cotton buds, hair pins and ear candles may push wax deeper into the ear, making it hard to remove.
  • A large amount of hair in the ear canal can obstruct ear wax from moving naturally out of the ear.
  • A dusty or dirty work environment, particularly outdoors, can lead to debris o dirt building up and trapping wax in the ear.
  • Hearing aid, hearing protection plug wearers and earphone use can prevent the wax from moving naturally out of the ear canal.
